Who Qualifies To Get A Bursary Or University Student Loan From NSFAS?



The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has officially opened the 2025 application system.

Applications are actually open and may close on 15 December 2024.

*** Who qualifies for NSFAS funding

To qualify for NSFAS funding, an applicant will have to meet the subsequent requirements:

• Be a South African citizen or copyright who arises from a house with a combined gross family earnings that does not exceed R350 000 for each annum.

• Individuals with disabilities qualify if their combined household revenue would not exceed R600 000 per annum.

• SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and wish not post any evidence of earnings.

*** Loan Scheme for the Missing Middle

The NSFAS Loan Scheme for the missing middle is open up to all South African citizens and permanent residents from households with combined R350 000 and R600 000 for each annum.

Applicants are reminded to deliver the proper Identity Document numbers, names, and surname, as reflected inside their South African ID.

NSFAS only funds people who are researching or plan to research in a public university or TVET college in South Africa.

All students who wish to study in any of the public universities and TVET colleges should apply timeously and not to wait until the last day.

Learners do not have to wait for matric results to apply for NSFAS. They should apply now and avoid nsfas status delays in the processing of their application.
